Cirrus - ATM out of service

Hello dear LINK employees.

I live in Uruguay and i am European.

Since about 10 days, me and all other people i know, which have bank accounts in Europe, can't get money out of the cashpoints.

The error-message - if any - says:
ATM out of order.

Employees of the local banks first refuse to help and say something like:
"your account could be locked",
"your card could be broken".
But if you don´t accept this and ask them to call their service hotline, they admit that "Cirrus has a problem".

What i would like to know from you:
Who exactly has a problem?

  • The banks in Uruguay,
  • your ATM-provider in Uruguay (Anteldata?)
  • Some other provider on the way to Europe?
  • Your company?

And the next question:

  • How long will it take you to fix the problem?

Best regards,
Ralph Gerstmann

I sent this mail yesterday to

  • linkinfo@link.co.uk
  • sally.rydertaylor@thejjgroup.com
  • victoria.mcgovern@thejjgroup.com

because http://www.link.co.uk/ states them as contacts.

I will inform you about their answers.

In the meantime we should try to find other providers which feel responsible, especially at BROU.

Cirrus is the provider of the ATM Network with which the cashpoints communicate with the data centres in Europe. (Für laypersons: This is something like the Internet)

The mistake could be in Uruguay,
Satellite connections,
undersea cables,
at Anteldata which probably rents cablesfor ATM to Cirruy,
or in the central in UK.

By any means, BROU is not the only bank concerned, which makes me assume the mistake is indeed to be found at Cirrus.

I would say:

ATM failing for a short time is pretty normal.
But failing sooo consequently, i talk of about 10 days, makes me imagine bad things.

Nothing on the Newspapers, nothing in the net, employees of the banks try to make us think they dont know about the problem.

Please help me bothering them with support requests.
